World Centric compostable clear domed lids for 8 oz takeout paper/NoTree bowls are made from NatureWorks Ingeo, a product derived from plants grown in the USA. Great for cold food like ice cream, these lids are heat resistant up to 120°F and will compost in 2 to 4 months in a commerical composting facility.
Corn plastics are plastics made from PLA (polylactide). PLA is made from corn. Corn plastic products look and feel just like regular plastic, but they are 100% biodegradable and compostable. Corn is a renewable resource which makes corn plastics much more sustainable than regular plastic which is made from petroleum.
A: Polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable, thermoplastic, aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch (in the U.S.) or sugarcanes (rest of world). Although PLA has been known for more than a century, it has only been of commercial interest in recent years, in light of its biodegradability.
